2022 Championship - Update

The Flag Officers of Clwb Hwylio Pwllheli Sailing Club and Royal Dee Yacht Club, welcome you to the 2022 IRC Welsh National Championships at Plas Heli.

This Championship is one of four UK regional IRC events to be held this year, and the title is awarded by RORC and the IRC rating office, and we are very pleased to be the hosts once again.

Below you will find some useful information, invitations - and of course the sailing instructions and please share this newsletter with your crew and shore supporters.

IRC 1 and 2 (Inshore).

By Thursday we will have a handle on the entry numbers and work out the class splits. The race officer for this group is Mike Butterfield assisted by the RDYC team with John Close as mark layer. This is a very experienced team, and they will provide a mix of racing.

The title of “IRC Welsh National Champion” will be awarded to a competitor from this group

NHC Cruisers.

This class will be managed by Robin Evans and his CHPSC team from the PSC bridge. This class will be set courses using fixed and geographical marks and will not race windward leeward. The NHC handicap “progressive system” will be used to score this class. Robin and his team have managed this class for many years and provide excellent racing.

WhatsApp group.

As per previous years, an event “WhatApp” group has been formed, to publish changes to SI’s and other important event information. Please ensure you join this group before race day 1.

Note – this group is not a “chat forum” but a place to ask relevant questions and for the event and race management teams to supply answers.

This will all be via the WhatsApp group, so look out for any important messages from the race officers and event management teams.

‍SOCIAL PLAN.

Thursday 4th

The Flag Officers of CHPSC alongside the Plas Heli directors, invite you to a “Commodores’ Reception” generously sponsored by our hosts Plas Heli.

This will be held on the west facing deck at Plas Heli, where we will have complimentary drinks and nibbles for skippers and their crews. 

This is a great opportunity to chat to fellow competitors, and the event management team.

Friday 5th

After racing, there will be a BBQ on the Plas Heli deck, with a variety of food offerings to suit all tastes. The daily prize giving will take place after racing on the balcony in Plas Heli. Tickets are available from the bar

From 7pm we have the Jac Dobson a’r band playing for us, with dancing encouraged!

Saturday 6th

Prizegiving after racing sponsored by Firmhelm Ltd, with jugs of beer! Sean and Kellie will be offering their standard menu with a variety of freshly cooked dishes, using locally sourced ingredients.

Sunday 7th

After racing the final prizegiving will be held in the main hall, with carvery baps available – these can be pre-booked at the bar. Please join us to celebrate our 2022 champions.

Breakfasts. 

If pre-ordered via Sean and Kellie, these will be available all three days, as will packed lunches. Please make these arrangements directly with Sean and Kellie.
